The next step from a hyperlink or email address to evidential data is identifying the organisation or company that is responsible for registering a particular internet domain. Such organisation or company is called DNR.

The letters behind an internet domain's last dot (exceptions such as "co.uk" prove the rule are called TLD.

The ICANN is currently (still) responsible for TDL administration, whereas the actual IANA function is exercised by an ICANN division.

The Root Zone Database tells you the name of the organisation or company to which the IANA delegated the administration of any particular TLD.
